How To Shuck Corn

shuck corn

This is how to shuck corn! Corn has a lot of different layers and it can get messy. There is the ear, which is where the stem was growing the corn from. The husk is the tough green outside layer. Silks are the stringy part that make it messy and difficult to peel. And finally, the kernel itself which is the seed that we are after!

  1. Microwave

Before I do anything, I throw my ear of corn in the microwave. The heat loosens up the husk, making it easy to remove. I suggest placing your corn on a microwave-safe plate and microwaving it for two minutes. Be careful, the plate will be hot!

  2. Cut off the end of the corn

Next place your corn on a cutting board. I usually place a tea towel or paper towel beneath my cutting board to keep it from sliding out from under. Then take a sharp knife, and cut off the ear side end of the corn. The ear side is the side that the corn was growing from.

  3. Peel off the husk

Peel off the husk! This should be easy and nearly mess free because we already microwaved it. There should not be much silk sticking to the corn because of the heat.

It’s a fool proof method if you want to shuck corn without the mess!
